Blizzard Entertainment’s big annual event BlizzCon hit the Anaheim Convention Center south of Los Angeles and director Duncan Jones was there to unveil new details about the Warcraft movie headed to cinemas in 2016.
Aiming to delve into the reasons, problems and consequences of war, Jones’ film will take a look at the combat from both sides: the mortal Alliance races and the seemingly evil, destructive Horde comprised of orcs, trolls and more.
The main characters for the Alliance side include Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel), a war hero who has sacrificed everything to keep the people of Azeroth safe; King Llane Wrynn (Dominic Cooper), the leader of the Alliance city of Stormwind and a beacon of hope to its people in a time of darkness; Medivh (Ben Foster), AKA “the Guardian,” a mysterious and reclusive protector who wields formidable power; Khadgar (Ben Schnetzer), a gifted young mage, embarking on a daring search for the truth; Lady Taria (Ruth Negga), the royal Queen of Stormwind, King Llane’s great love and most trusted counsel; and Garona (Paula Patton), a strong-willed survivor who must decide where her true loyalty lies when she’s caught between both sides.
On the opposing side we have Durotan (Toby Kebbel), the noble Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan who is battling to save his people and his family from extinction; Orgrim (Rob Kazinsky), Durotan’s right hand and a brave warrior destined to wield the Doomhammer, a weapon of orc legend; Blackhand (Clancy Brown), known as “The Destroyer,” one of orc-kind’s most fearsome and titanic warchiefs; and Gul’dan (Daniel Wu), a supreme orc ruler, fuelled by a dark magic that even he cannot control.

Composer Ramin Djawadi (Pacific Rim) has signed on to provide the score for director Duncan Jones’ video game adaptation Warcraft, which is currently in post-production after wrapping principal photography in July.
Warcraft is based on the massively popular video game of the same name, where players control characters in a long-standing war between the Horde and the Alliance in a mystical realm full of various creatures. It was reported in May that the project will undergo nearly two years of post-production work, before it is released in March 2016. Producer Thomas Tull revealed that the video game adaptation will employ “next generation” technology to bring this fantasy world to life. The first footage was shown at Comic-Con this summer, but it’s unclear when the general public may get to see what this massive movie looks like.
Directed by Duncan Jones, Warcraft comes to theatres March 11th, 2016. The film stars Paula Patton, Anson Mount, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, Travis Fimmel, Anton Yelchin, Ben Foster and Toby Kebbell. (Source)

Website, “Female First” has compiled a list of all the movies to be released in 2016 they are excited for. Unsurprisingly, the highly anticipated video game adaptation, Warcraft made the list. Take a look at what they had to say:
Release Date: March 11, 2016
I am a huge fan of director Duncan Jones, and I can’t wait to see him back in the director’s chair with Warcraft.
Warcraft is the latest computer game to be adapted for the big screen, and it is already one of the most anticipated films of 2016. Jones has been behind films such as Moon and Source Code, but Warcraft is set to be the biggest film of his career to date – he has penned the screenplay as well as being in the director’s chair.
Filming has wrapped on the film, which is now in what will be a lengthy post-production. A great cast has been brought together for the film, as Paula Patton, Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster, and Toby Kebbell are just some of the names on board.
In recent years, we have seen so many computer game adaptations fail critically and commercially, but there is so much anticipation around this film, that it may be the one that bucks the trend.
